Violence prevention and upholding the Second Amendment are not mutually exclusive. While we respect the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment, we also recognize the urgent need to address the epidemic of gun violence in our communities. Our approach emphasizes common-sense measures that protect both public safety and individual freedoms. This includes implementing comprehensive background checks to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals, investing in mental health resources to address underlying issues, and supporting responsible gun ownership through education, training programs, waiting periods for purchases, and background checks. By striking a balance between protecting constitutional rights and prioritizing public safety, we can work towards a safer and more secure society for all.
